Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween everyone! This is my costume for this year. I made this Pac-Man costume in which you carry Pac-Man on your shoulders. It's build pretty solid and the whole thing is about 20 inches wide so I can stand inside of it. Wish me luck at during the costume contest!

Fall Colors

We've had a lot of rain recently and many leafs have fallen off the trees. There are a few however, that still have quite a few leafs with the beautiful fall colors still present. The beautiful red, orange, and yellow. Soon they will all be gone, the temperature will get even colder, and winter will be here for good.

90,000 Miles

I was driving today and saw that I had just run over 90,000 miles on my truck. When I initially purchased it there were ~58,000 miles in the summer of 2003. That works out to ~17.5 miles per day since I got the vehicle.

1972 Paint Job

I took this a while ago at the classic car show I went to. This guy was really proud that this car had its original paint job from 1972. He didn't drive it at all and kept it garaged all the time.

Helderberg Escarpment

I caught this picture last weekend when I went apple picking. It was taken looking south towards the Helderberg Escarpment west south-west of Albany. Here is a better description:

The Helderberg Escarpment is the northeasternmost extent of the Allegheny Plateau at its juncture with the Interior Lowlands and the Hudson Valley. This juncture is responsible for the dramatic cliffs which rise over 305 meters (1,000 feet) from the valley floor. The Helderberg Plateau consists predominantly of layers of shale, sandstone, and limestone. Water flowing through the layers of limestone on the plateau has dissolved and eroded the rock, leading to a geological landscape known as karst terrain that includes several caves. Because the exposed cliffs are rich in fossils, chronicling a half-billion years of geological history, it has intrigued paleontologists and geologists for years. Apple Muffins

Last night I made some apple muffins because I had way too many apples still left over from apple picking last weekend. As the muffin tin was sitting on the counter, I thought this would make a good picture. Maybe I'll post a picture of the muffins sometime in the near future.

Enjoy the weekend. Today will be rainy and cloudy most of the day so it's a good day to stay inside, cook, read, and watch college football.

AJ Wright Grand Opening

AJ Wright is an off-price retailer who recently opened a new store at the Westgate Plaza. The shopping center is located at 911 Central Avenue, Suite B2, Albany. The grand opening began at 8:45 A.M. on October 16th; however, a crowed began to form well before the doors opened. Along with a $500 donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany, the event also included an amateur fashion photo shoot that shoppers could participate in. Overall, the event went well and the new store has brought 50 new jobs to the community - something that is important given the current economic issues.

Dancing in the Streets

This is another picture I caught at Lark Fest. There were many people watching this gospel band and dancing around. It was a sight to be seen.

This is another classic car I came across today while I was out and about.

Apple Picking

This past weekend I went apple picking at Bowman Orchards seeing as how it was late in the season and I still hadn't been this year. It wasn't a weekend too soon either since they are calling for the first snow showers sometime Wednesday morning. No accumulation of the ground, but just some falling flakes. It was a beautiful day as well without a cloud in the sky.

While I was there I accumulated ~12 pounds of apples ranging from Cortland, Empire, Fuji, McIntosh, Mutsu, and probably a few more I can't remember off the top of my head. Pile on the Apple Cider Doughnuts, fresh Peanut Butter Chocolate Fudge, fresh Raspberries, and Pumpkins and the trip was well worth the effort.

If you have not been picking this year, you may still have a shot left in the next week or two. Time is running out though because the temperature is starting to drop.

Watching

Cowboy Hats

You don't expect to see many cowboy hats in New York, but at Lark Fest a few weeks ago Wandering Cowboys (out of Rutland, VT) was present selling cowboy hats to all the passerby's.

Flowers

Fall is upon us and the leaves have turned. Soon they will all fall and we will be stuck with a gray, white, and dirty landscape. That doesn't mean the color had to leave you or your house. Stop by Flowers For All Occasions on Lark St. for all your needs. Hopefully you need get to use them for a very special occasion.

First Mate

I was a First Mate on an Albany Aqua Ducks tour. Okay. So not really, but I found this sticker on the sidewalk with my foot beside it. Mine are the Chuck Taylor All Stars with white laces.

Fallen Leaves

I was walking out to my car today and came across all these leaves that had blow down after the rain we had. The colors on the wet pavement really stood out to me. Enjoy the fall colors everyone. I hope to get out this weekend and take some good pictures.

Fire Truck

This is the side panel from a firetruck on Fuller Road. It is from an older truck that was in immaculate condition.

I came across this very clean engine the other day.

New Layout

Sorry kids. As the days are becoming shorter, the white background of the blog didn't look right. It was time for a change. Plus I think the black background makes the pictures jump out more at you.

Beautiful Day

Today is a beautiful day to be outside!

Building on Lark St.

I was walking around Lark St. this afternoon and saw this building on the corner with a wonderful blue sky. The shadows you see around the corners are from a polarizing filter I had on my camera. I decided to leave them in the picture since it gives some character.

Beads

Needs some new beads? I found these at an arts and crafts fair sometime recently. I love how the colors are so vivid and jump out at you.

Fall in Albany

Don't be mistaken. We are not in the desert southwest. Even here in Albany we have cacti. This shot was taken on a friends stoop and showed a mixture of cacti and pumpkins and I couldn't resist.

A Tale of Two Halves

This was snapped at Lark Fest a few weeks back. The sun hidden behind the telephone pole really cuts this picture into two halves the way the sun falls on either side.

SUNY Plaza

This is a picture of the renovated SUNY Albany Plaza. This new entry is very similar to a park with open green spaces and has free Wi-Fi. It will be a great place to be when it's warm outside, but will probably get little use during the winter.

Fuller Road Fire Department

Today the Fuller Road Fire Department was out washing their fire engines. I snagged this shot after they had dried this old-time truck.

The Daily Grind

We all go through 'The Daily Grind' everyday. But you can also go TO The Daily Grind. This coffee shop/cafe conveniently located on Lark St. serves up some great sandwiches (Try the Reubens!), breakfast dishes, and of course the best coffee in town.

The King Fountain

The King Fountain can be found in Washington Park just West of Willet St. The statue in the middle of this picture depicts Moses ready to strike the rock of Horeb. The figure on the left is the sculpture of youth and the one of the right is the sculpture of Manhood. There are four lower statues depicting the 4 stages of life: Childhood, Youth, Manhood, Old Age. Created by J. Massy Rhind of Scotland (He immigrated to New York shortly before being selected to design the statue), the sculpture was finished in 1893.

Wired

It's a beautiful, but chilly day. Maybe you should stay inside, stay warm, and call home.

Postcard Machine

During Lark Fest two weeks ago, I came across this Postcard Machine. It was really unique because you could turn a dial, insert any amount of money you decide, and then the person behind the machine would give you a postcard. Leave it to an artist to make a Postcard Machine.

What a day

It rained on an off all day today. Not your typical showers. It would rain, then there would be blue sky, then it would rain again. It did that about 4 times throughout the day.

I caught this picture during one of the clearings in the clouds. It was a picture of this building covered in ivy.

Crisan Bakery

Crisan Bakery! Awesome place if you have never been. You have got to try their tiramisu gelato. It's the best! My second favorite would be the coconut. And it's cheap too! $1 for a large scoop. What more could you ask for?
