January 2009 theme day: Best photo of the year 2008

This is a variation of the photo I initially posted on June 21st, 2008. It was probably the best picture I took in 2008 and used it for today's theme day for Best Photo of the year 2008. This shot however is at a different angle.

Happy New Year's!

Scavenger Hunt

Here's something fun. If you can tell me where this picture was taken you win a prize. I have absolutely no means of actually awarding you a prize, but let's see if anyone gets it.

Nazar

This is a Nazar or an evil eye stone given to me by my friend Sarah from Turkey. This amulet is meant to protect against evil eye...or the belief that the envy of fortunate people will eventually lead to their misfortune. There are many stories that are associated with these objects: here - here and here. Along with the good protection they bring, they are also beautiful ornaments for ones house.

Flowers

This is part of a picture frame that I have in my place that came with some flower pictures in the holder to persuade you to buy this cheap wall art. Seeing as how I saved this thing from a goodwill bin as a undergrad, I was too lazy to ever replace the pictures. I think the flowers looked very good by themselves.

Extra Paint and Canvas

I had some extra paint and a canvas laying around my place a few weeks ago so I decided to get rid of both and this is what I came up with. I'm not and artist and I don't claim to be one, but it adds some nice color to my apartment.

Beads

Needs some new beads? I found these at an arts and crafts fair sometime recently. I love how the colors are so vivid and jump out at you.

Postcard Machine

During Lark Fest two weeks ago, I came across this Postcard Machine. It was really unique because you could turn a dial, insert any amount of money you decide, and then the person behind the machine would give you a postcard. Leave it to an artist to make a Postcard Machine.

Welcome to the prehistoric age

This is a taste of what the Albany Food Festival had to offer. I don't think these were edible.

Troy Mural

Today I stopped by Brown's Brewing Company for lunch. I've seen this mural many times before, but this time I wanted to document the facade of this building cause I thought it was pretty cool. I'm not sure about much of its history or tradition.

Art on Lark!

Art on Lark was held today. Lark street was full of vendors and people. This was a street display of a bunch of old cell phones that were all the same model. This photo shows part of the whole display. I got a few good finds and need to give shout outs to the following vendors. I would also like to wish them all the best of luck.

Albany Institute of History & Art Gala

As I passed by Albany Nanotech today I saw this giant tent that was setup and became curious. Who is having an event at Albany Nanotech, and why is it outside? The Albany Institute of History & Art is having a Gala tonight. Still makes me wonder why they didn't have it at the Albany Institute of History & Art. I guess the Albany Nanotech buildings can now be considered 'art'.
